How to Live A Meaningful Life

Long Term Playmaker

We all want to make plays towards our goals. We want to live our lives to the fullest while chasing down our dreams. We all want to live long lives filled with positive impact on others and we want to leave a legacy that lives well beyond our time is up.

Making plays for a year or two is easy. What happens when responsibilities, life stressors, and mundane tasks start to chip away at your ability? Do you want to make plays for a short time or a long time?

How Do We Maintain Our Playmaking Ability As We Age?

  • Invest time, energy, and effort towards improvement of your mind, body, and soul.

  • Find smart people and learn from them.

  • Accept the mundane tasks of life and do them well.

  • Pick Infinite Games to play. The game you want to play for the sake of playing.

  • Limit Instant Pleasures — usually very unhealthy for our mind, body, and spirit.

  • Engage, Encourage, and Empower Others.

  • Stop searching for Easy Shortcuts — usually leads to shitty results.

  • Embrace the Lifelong Quest of Self-Mastery

  • Fall in Love with Learning and Understanding

  • Develop Space Between Thoughts

I will expand upon some of these ideas below.

Daily Actions for Mind + Body + Spirit

MIND

  • Meditation (2 x 15 minutes)

    • 1x in the morning, 1x in the evening/night

  • Clean personal space + other chores (15 minutes)

    • Dishes, laundry, organization of space, putting things in their places. A clean space goes a long ways towards keeping my mind clean.

  • Read books, articles, and newsletters. (30 minutes)

    • This a cheat code to life! Learn from the greats!

BODY

  • Walk or Ruck (30-45 minutes)

    • Explore different areas and routes.

  • Training (30-45 minutes)

    • Make it easy!

  • Eat healthy options, and avoid unhealthy options and behaviors.

    • Use my brain and think about my goals.

SOUL

  • Pray

    • Make the time, don’t pray for things, just pray and say thanks for life.

  • Create and Cultivate Awareness, Focus, and Attention.

    • Deep Work Routine — Avoid Instant gratification habits

  • Play + Reflect

    • Think and Don’t Think

    • Lose Myself in some Moments and Be Aware of Other Moments (balance)

Pick Infinite Games you want to Play Forever.

We get to pick the games we participate in. We should aim to play games that we love to play for the sake of playing. This is unique to each individual and you must find your own games. I want you to think broadly and then chisel down as you discover the niche and specifics of what your Infinite Games are.

Here are some personal examples:

  • Coach and Trainer — impacting the youth and people who want to improve their health & wellness.

  • Writing and Creating — writing and creating meaningful pieces of content that give my community educational value.

  • High-Performance Man — this is a personal way of becoming My Ideal Self. A high-performance man is a comprehensive and calm man who excels in the areas of mind, body, spirit, relationships, and business.

These are games that I am interested in playing for the rest of my life. I plan to build my legacy on top of these categories. You must do the self-reflection and figure out your own games. Give yourself enough time and ask the tough questions! The clarity is worth it!

Embrace the Lifelong Quest of Self-Mastery

The quest for self-mastery lasts a lifetime. There is no use in rushing this process. We all must dedicate time and energy towards self-awareness and self-mastery.

This ties in with the last concept — our infinite games should have some crossover with our pursuit of self-mastery. Like I said, this is unique to each person on this planet, so there is no cookie cutter approach to discovery.

There are plenty of tools and resources that will help you uncover the basics of self-mastery. One of my favorite resources is Mastery by Robert Greene — this book is a comprehensive deep dive into the world of mastery. Definitely one of my top 5 books I have ever read.

Thanks for checking in — I hope you have a great week up ahead!
